Working Definition
Comprehending itself is a process of meaning making. Within this document Monitoring & Repairing Meaning refers to the initial stages of this process. These initial stages still share some of the bottom-up processes of decoding, but the higher level top-down processes are also being utilized. Metacognition and self monitoring are both vital here as they are through all of the strategies. Self monitoring is especially important for repairing meaning when meaning begins to break down.
