(You may be surprised!) Robert Pottle Children's Poet Typically, I start with large groups presentations. The pictures to the left are from one of these large group performances. As you can see, I use props while dramatically performing my poetry. Both students and teachers enjoy poetry in a way they never have before. The large group performances last about a half an hour and I need about ten minutes before and after to set up and take down. With the age range of most schools two of these large group performances would be best, one for younger children, one for older. This way I can tailor my performance to the audience. Usually after large group performances I visit classrooms. I have a variety of activities I can do in the classroom. If your school has topics you would like me to address, I can design activities specific to your needs; just let me know in advance. I like to have at least 20 minutes for classroom visits. If scheduling permits, longer is even better. If time restraints require you to double up classes that is fine, but of course the smaller the groups, the more the students will get out of it. I also hold a book signing. During my visit, I will generate a great enthusiasm for poetry. The best way to capitalize on that enthusiasm is to get books into the kids' hands. My book, Moxie Day and Family, is perfect for this. Not only does it contains over sixty poems, many of which I will have performed to the children, but it also has fifteen pages of comic strips that define over 25 poetic terms. A book signed by the author is a special treat for children that will be treasured. I offer books sold in advance at a discount. If you need a poet, a presenter, or a performer, drop me a line. I have even written poems for hire for a leading educational software company. Request a quote for your school. (You may be surprised!)
