Working Definition

A reflective text to world connection occurs when the text causes an association to be made with the reader's understanding of the world. It is very similar to a text to self connection with the difference being that the reader may not have directly experienced what is being connected, but rather it is generated from generalizations formed about how the world works, or prior knowledge of historic or current events.

• What happened in your reading that reminded you of something that really happened to someone other than yourself? Record what happened in the book and what really happened to someone other than yourself. How was it the same? How was it different?
• Record a connection you had to the text. Is this connection important to you or important to understand the text.
• Record a connection that is important to you. Explain why it is important to you. Explain why this connection might not be important to someone else.
