Another poem from the NEW book MAINE: The Way Wildlife Should Be!

There's a Raccoon in the Trash Can
To the tune of "Battle Hymn of the Republic, or Glory! Glory!Hallelujah"

A raccoon came a-wandering into our yard last night.
Our overflowing trash can was a very welcome sight.
He climbed right in and had a gastronomical delight.
He's eating all the trash!

There's a raccoon in the trash can.
There's a raccoon in the trash can.
There's a raccoon in the trash can.
He's eating all the trash!

He ate a moldy melon rind and then an apple core.
He ate the macaroni I had spilled upon the floor.
He swallowed seven artichokes and then he looked for more.
He's eating all the trash!

There's a raccoon in the trash can.
There's a raccoon in the trash can.
There's a raccoon in the trash can.
He's eating all the trash!

He ate until the morning when the garbage truck appeared.
His paws were gross and sticky and his fur completely smeared.
When dumped into the garbage truck he shouted and he cheered.
He's eating all the trash!
