The Chair
 for Jersey City Community Charter School

 
Don't get me wrong, I like to sit
in chairs both old and new.
I'll sit on sofas, stools, or benches, 
any chair will do.
But there's a chair I do not like.
I had to sit there once,
and when I did, I must admit,
I felt such like a dunce.
The kids who passed all stopped to look,
some giggled, some looked scared.
I just sat and closed my eyes
in hopes that I'd be spared.
I'd rather eat my spinach. I'd rather clean my room,
than to have to spend one second
in the old black chair of doom.
