forward inference

"These inference types can be further subdivided, into those which occur in a backwards direction relative to the progression of narrative time (connecting, explanatory inferences), and those which occur in a forwards direction (predictive inferences)" (Smith, E., & Hancox, P. 2001, p. 311)

Working Definition

Forward inferring is synonomous with predicting. It is the act of the reader developing implied understandings about what will occur latter in the text.

Prompts are found in each of the subsets.
